Ruth Kempner, a New York native, holds a fine
arts degree from Cooper Union. She has studied at NYU, Yale, PSU, and the Rhode
Island School of Design. After working as a textile designer in NYC, she moved
to Clearfield and established a studio. In 1977she moved to State College.
Her paintings have won awards in many juried shows throughout Pennsylvania,
including the prestigious CPFA "Images." Ruth has also served as a
juror for a number of major Central Pennsylvania shows.
The essence of Ruth's art is discovery. She is an adventurer,
an extraordinary explorer always willing to take risks. Each piece opens a new
frontier for experimentation with different surfaces, textures, and mediums,
including transparent and opaque watercolor, acrylic, gouache, and casein.
Ruth has been teaching art for over 30 years. She enjoys the
artistic interaction with her students and has taught introductory to advanced
experimental water-media techniques.
