MONDAYS

  
 Oil Painting
 Jennifer Kane

     Develop oil painting skills in a fun and supportive
 environment. Students will pursue individual projects
 assisted by the instructor.
 An 8-week session in two
 parts:

Monday Afternooners

    If you have trouble finding time for your art at home, drop by the open studio: a great
opportunity to finish work, to have work critiqued, or simply to socialize with other artists.
By giving yourself a regular time to focus on your art, you will see your productivity rise.
Mondays: 1:30 - 4 pm,  ongoing
Each session: $5 members; $8 nonmembers


Abstract Painting    CANCELLED

    Various approaches to abstraction into your painting practice will be introduced, using
 exercises that will help expand your visual language and broaden your sources of
 imagery .We will be creating original abstract compositions from a series of studio
 exercises involving collage, abstract still life, pattern and repetition. Technical instruction
 will include paint handling techniques and successful use of lien quality, form, color, and
 texture.  We will focus on developing your own unique visual style and direction.
 Mondays 6 - 9 pm,  8 weeks

TUESDAYS

 Digital Cameras in the Field

     This course will concentrate on using your digital camera
 effectively outdoors to capture landscapes, nature close-ups and
 other natural subjects. The first class will be held at the Alliance to
 discuss special needs for cameras in the outdoors. The next three
 classes will be held at locations around the Centre Region to
 practice photographic skills. A final follow-up critique class will
 conclude the course.
 Some light walking will be required.

 Watercolor Painting

  Learn the basic approaches to watercolor painting while
 focusing on still life composition and landscape ideas. For
 both beginning and intermediate students. Call or email Jeff

Clay Tile Designs

    Seemingly simple, tile making is a unique area of study in ceramics. From their rich
 history as architectural ornaments to their extraordinary potential for art making, tiles
 offer artists a fascinating new palette to enjoy. We will explore patterned tiles with their
 focus on multiples and interlocking designs. In the second exploration of tiles as
 multiples, we will develop a three-dimensional tile model from which to cast a mold,
 examining how a variety of clay bodies and surface finishes alters a single tile design.

 Sculpture

    All experience levels welcome for an opportunity to examine and interpret 3-D form.
 Choose from a variety of materials and techniques. Individual instruction encourages
 progress at your own pace.

Still-life Drawing with Colored
Pencils

    This course will focus on basic drawing concepts of your favorite
 objects done both from life and pictures. Proportion, perspective,
 color mixing, composition, modeling light and shade and more
 would be primary focus in this class. It's designed for the absolute
 beginner, yet, more advanced students would find it beneficial as
 well. The artist will have demos as well as pictures from
 magazines to illustrate the concepts behind drawing, while
 students are encouraged to ask questions.
 Wednesdays: 1 - 4 pm    8 weeks

Open Model Session

    An opportunity to drop in and work from a model in the medium of your choice.

Concrete Art

    New additions to an old, outdoor friendly building material take concrete beyond bird
 baths and stepping stones and into a versatile, non toxic and light weight sculpture
 medium. The weight, scale and construction issues of ceramics are transcended with
 concrete while the shaping, incising, coloring and molding potential remains. Best of all,
 most of the materials you will need can be picked up at your local garden/building supply
 store for cheap. Think big and join an experimental class for a dance with a new
 medium. Class will cover basic armature building, formulas and structural additions,
 casting and finishing techniques.
 Tuesdays  6 - 9 pm.   8 weeks   
Begins September 24       
 $120 members;  $140 nonmembers + $15 materials fee. 
 Students need rubber gloves and protective eye wear.

THURSDAYS
 

 Beginning Pastels

     One of the appeals of pastels is the unique aesthetic
 experience of drawing and painting with color. The pastel
 sticks are vibrant and pure, offering the artist the ability to
 create color saturated paintings. In these two sessions
 you'll learn the history of pastels and the skills and
 techniques unique to the medium. This class will enable
 you to move on to the regular Thursday pastel class beginning
 September 18.
 Note: This class is offered September 10 and 11 only,  9:30 am - 3 pm
 $65 members; $75 nonmembers

 
 
Pastels: Value and Composition

    Value or chiaroscuro, the term first used by the great 14th
 century master Caravaggio, is essential to a successful
 painting. Design or composition is the idea behind the painting
 We'll explore value and composition with the aim to improve
 and bring our paintings to another level. For artists with some
 pastel experience.

Collage and  Assemblage

 will be explored. The class will emphasize spontaneity and
 personal creativity and FUN!

Stained Glass

Getting the Most from your Digital Camera

    This class is designed for the person who wants to know more about digital
cameras, how they work and how to use them effectively to take many kinds of images.
You will learn about the potential and limitations of your personal camera. This is not a
computer editing class, but a class geared for the actual process of shooting with the
camera.

Nature And the Written Word

    This retreat type workshop will utilize nature, poetry (particularly haiku, a simple
Japanese form of poetry) and simple sketches to focus attention on the essentials, stimulate ideas and inspire unique compositions.  We will walk in natural settings, muse
on our experiences and then express ourselves on paper. For anyone seeking to enrich
their art or just their lives.
