    Classes begin the week of September 13, 2010 unless otherwise noted.

    The Registration Form can be filled in directly on the screen
     (except for credit card info),  and then printed and mailed to the
     Art Alliance.

Oil Painting

Monday Afternooners

    If you have trouble finding time for your art at home, drop by the open studio: a great
opportunity to finish work, to have work critiqued, or simply to socialize with other artists.
By giving yourself a regular time to focus on your art, you will see your productivity rise.

Basic Drawing with Realistic Techniques

    Students will draw from both life and pictures. Veronica will perform
 drawing demonstrations at the beginning of each class while the
 remainder of class will be devoted to students' practice and individual and
 group critiques. You will explore basic techniques in drawing with graphite
 pencils. Colored pencils or pastels will be reserved for more advanced
 students or those who'd like to give them a try. Color theory, value scale,
 composition, design, layering and accuracy of shapes will be the primary
 focus. TEENS ARE WELCOME to register.
 Supply list includes either a box of 24+ Prismacolor premier pencils, colorless
 blender, a small can of mineral spirits/turpanoid with a small brush or a box of graphite pencils of various softness (4B pencil is a must), kneaded eraser and a 9x12 or larger smooth paper
 (bristol smooth Strathmore recommended) Bring 3 objects to draw for the first session.

TUESDAYS
 

Acrylic Painting

     In this course you will discover yourself through the versatility of
 acrylics. We will experiment with different techniques, surfaces,
 colors and compositions. In the process you will learn new
 approaches and become more creative and courageous with
 your subject. You will be capable of translating ideas into a
 finished painting and find ways of working that are unique and
 personal. All experience levels welcome.

Drawing: The Intimacy of Objects    Begins Oct. 5

    We will look at objects, develop strong compositional space, and build a vocabulary of
 marks as we engage in the drawing process. With a minimum of tools we will all have work
 that will enhance our portfolio. A variety of papers and surfaces will be offered so that students
 can make personal choices as to the support on which they work. Mixed media will be
 included, moving to a more abstract point of view if a student desires. We will learn from one
 another as drawings are executed and a dialogue between students is developed.

Still with Life Watercolors

    Michele will offer hints on color mixing to avoid muddy colors, creating
 mood, and painting different types of light, shadows. All you need to know
 to make that watercolor glow with light in your still life compositions. These
 classes can be explored by the beginner to the experienced painter.

Watercolor Landscapes    Begins Sept. 21

    Learn the basic techniques of watercolor painting. We will focus
 on painting landscapes from your choice of photographs. The
 class is for both beginners and intermediate students.
 Instruction is individually oriented. Please email Jeff for a list of

 Improve Your Figure, Sculpture

    In this course we will work in clay from a live model,progressing from
 short poses and quick studies to longer poses and more finished pieces
 The emphasis will be on expression and effective abstraction of the
 figure rather than realism. Clay is available from the Art Alliance for
 $12.50/25lbs. Please bring a wood board and some plastic bags to the
 first session.

Getting to Know Your Digital Camera

    This class is for the beginning to intermediate photographer who
 has a digital camera and would like to know more about it. It will
 be a class in discovery of your camera and what it can or cannot
 do and how to get the most out of it for various situations. The
 lessons will include some background on how digital cameras
 work, features of the camera and how to use them at
 the appropriate times for best results. This will not be a class on photo editing with a computer.
 It is oriented toward the act of recording images. The classes will be actively involved in
 shooting and learning the features of the student's particular camera. The teacher will work with
 the individual student to get the most out of his/her camera.

Stained Glass

 will explore realistic and abstract forms using clay for some

 Falling for Fall Watercolors

Pastel Painting

 techniques will be demonstrated along with class participation. Students

 Composition With Your Digital Camera

   The digital camera has made technically good photography available to
 everyone, but, what makes an aesthetically pleasing photograph (or art
 work)? This short course will introduce you to the compositional standards
 that make a good photograph and then you will go out and practice
 shooting with some tips that Bob will introduce in the short classroom
 session.

 Autumn Through the Camera

    In this workshop you will learn about color saturation and contrast controls
 to photograph the autumn landscape. The class will meet at a TBA location
 and after a short introduction and lesson will practice, then we will critique
 our images to improve our skills.
