                                                    About Our Instructors 

                                                                    Sylvia Apple
 Sylvia is an artist and poet who has worked in many media for thirty years and written
 haiku for over fifteen years. She is best known for her intricate quilts and silk paintings
 which owe much of their richness to her practice of haiku writing. She has written several
 haiku books and been published in Philadelphia Poets.
 

                                                                Bob Baumbach
 A retired high school art teacher from State College, Bob taught many mediums and
 started the high school photography program over twenty years ago. He has seen the
 photo program at State High through the digital revolution. He has taught crafts, drawing
 and painting as well as adult education watercolor classes for the State College

                                                                Jake Johnson
 Jake is an accomplished ceramicist, patient instructor, and just completed an
 outstanding Masters Thesis Show at the Zoller Gallery, Penn State. 

                                                               Terry Johnson
 After obtaining her MFA in 1981, Terry began her tile making career as a studio
 production artist selling her work in galleries and shops in the U.S. England, and Japan.
 Terry has been an arts specialist for the Southern Alleghenies Museum and the Galaxy
 Program. 

                                                                Ruth Kempner
 Ruth, a New York native, holds a fine arts degree from Cooper Union. She has studied
 at NYU, Yale, PSU and the Rhode Island School of Design. Her paintings have won
 awards in many juried shows throughout Pennsylvania, including the prestigious CPFA
 “Images”. Ruth has also served as a juror for a number of Central Pennsylvania shows
 and has taught art for over 40 years. 

                                                              Blake Ketchum
 Blake’s work includes portraiture, architectural ornament, iconography, and scientific
 models. Her work has bee commissioned by Yale, Cornell, University of Michigan, many
 science centers, theaters, and the International Special Olympics. Blake earned a BFA
 from the University of Michigan, an MS in Forestry and  a PhD in Soil Science. See her

                                                               Jeff Mathison
Jeff received his B.F.A from Penn State in 1972 and has been the graphic artist for A&H
consultants for twenty years. His artwork has been exhibited in many galleries and juried

                                                            Katy Mcnamara
 Katy holds an M.F.A, Painting, San Francisco Art Institute and Corcoran School of Art.
 She has exhibited in many shows in California, Maryland and Pennsylvania and won
 numerous awards. She has also participated in Public Arts Projects. To see her full

                                                               Ken Plattner
 Ken is a stained glass artist who has worked in the area since 1977. He started
 producing stained glass to help pay for his engineering studies at Penn State, but
 decided that glasswork was what he really wanted to do. Ken has taught in the area for
 many years. His business, Abby Stained Glass, is located on Main Street in Boalsburg.
 His works are installed worldwide and seen in numerous public and private places
 locally. 

                                                              Christy Wells
 Christy is a recent graduate of Penn State with a degree in Elementary Education and a
 concentration in Spanish. After a 20 year stint as an Advertising Executive and
 Underwriting Coordinator for regional and local TV and radio stations she chose to
 return to school and enter the field of Elementary Education. She has worked in many
 mediums including portrait drawing, photography, wood sculpture, fiber arts, and dance.
 She specializes in the use of “Green Art” in teaching.
