         Works by students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades in all school districts in Centre County
      who have demonstrated a special aptitude and love of art were on display at the Art       
      Alliance April 26.-28.
         Each student received a special recognition, and local artists gave encouragement
      for continued artistic interests.
   


       

                          "a la carte and Art"
                          15th Annual Reception and Exhibit
                     Hameau Farm in the Big Valley of Central PA
                                Saturday, May 18, 7 to 10 pm
   The Annual "a la carte and Art" features paintings created during
 the Hameau Farm Studio Artists Retreat Workshop by instructors
 and participating artists. This festive event includes fine food, art,
 and live music, and it is free and open to the public.

 Water Ways- Paintings by Alice Kelsey and
 Jeanne McKinney
 At the Bellefonte Art Museum. About forty oil and
 pastel paintings will be in the exhibit
(a portion of
 proceeds from artwork sales during the reception
 to benefit Clearwater Conservancy).

 For the Love of Trees
 The public is invited to a First Sunday Public Reception
 Sunday, May 5, 1:00-4:30. The Bellefonte Art Museum for
 Centre County, the Community Gallery/Upstairs.
 Nature has been a major source of inspiration for Sylvia Apple
 whose quilted hangings reflects her love of trees, water and the
 creatures that inhabit the woods. Jim Mikkelsen also has a deep
 love for trees and seeks to uncover the inherent beauty in the
 wood he sculpts into beautiful organic shapes. The
 complementary work of these two artists is combined in a moving harmonious exhibit.

                                                          Spirit and Substance Exhibit
           
Sculptor Jim Bright and painter Joanne Landis will present works at the Station
             Gallery in Lock Haven through May 18.

4th Annual Schlow Juried Exhibition

    The Betsy Rodgers Allen Gallery in Schlow Centre Region Library will hold its 4th Annual Juried
 Exhibition, July 1- 30. New this year: All artists who reside in Centre County (or within 30 miles of
 State College, PA) are welcome to apply. Art should have been completed between 2008 and 2013. .
 The opening event will be July 11, the first night of Arts Fest.  The entry form is now posted to the
  Library's website. Entries will be accepted until 9 pm, June 3.

                                                Green Drake Plein Air Paint-Out
  Painting dates: Thursday - Saturday, June 6-8. Wet Paint Show/Sale: Saturday, June 8 4-8 pm
 The Paint-Out is open to all artists and is limited to the first 25 registrations. There is a registration
  fee of $25 and prizes will be awarded Saturday afternoon. Full information and registration form

                    `Pennsylvania Watercolor Society International Juried Exhibition
    The Pennsylvania Watercolor Society has announced their 34th International Juried Exhibition
 to be held from October 5, 2013 through November 15, 2013, in the Crary Art Gallery, Warren, PA.
    The opening Reception will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2013, from 1 to 5 pm, with the Awards
 Ceremony taking place at 3 pm  Over $10,000 in Cash and Merchandise Awards will be available
 to fine artists from across the nation and around the world.
 Entry deadline is May 25. To enter the competition, either download the Prospectus directly from

                                     Exhibit Space at Elk Creek Café & Aleworks
         Sarah Berndt is handling installation of wall art at the Elk Creek Café and Aleworks
   in Millheim, Pennsylvania.  Sarah advises that this is an upscale venue,serving excellent
   food and produced-on-premise beer.  Over 75 feet of wall space is available for artwork
.        Shows run four to six  weeks, and sale of work is encouraged Interested artists should

                                                            Abe's Cafe
    Abe's Café, a new upscale restaurant on Route 655 in Belleville, is interested in a
  rotating show of artists work. The shows are one month in length and include an opening
  with live music. For more information contact Julie Babiak ( 717 935 2237).

                                                          Nittany Bank
     Greg Korn, Manager of the Nittany Bank on East College Avenue, State College,
 has invited the Art Alliance to display rotating shows of artwork in his bank's lobby
. There is space for ten to twelve two-dimensional pieces. The lighting is good and
 permission has been given to drive nails into the wall for hanging. Plans are to probably
 feature two artists in each exhibit. If you are interested in having your work considered

                                             Schlow Centre Region Library
     Schlow Centre Region Library is looking for artists wishing to display their work in
 the Schlow Library Gallery. Located on the first floor of the library, the Gallery enriches
 the aesthetic environment of the Library and community while promoting local artists
 with monthly or bi-monthly displays.
    The application process includes submitting a form, 2-3 slides with dimensions or a
 sample packet, and a one page description of the artist and his/her work. Upon
 receipt, the Gallery Committee will review the application and respond as quickly as
 possible

                                                            Cafe Lemont
 
Cafe Lemont, a new coffee shop, has opened at the intersection of Pike and Elmwood in
 Lemont. They feature an artist each month in their gallery seating room. Jodi McWhirter and
 Michael Beck, the co-owners, are both Art Alliance members. .If you are interested in

                                                Wi-Fi available for classes
    
    Our office wireless network can now provide wireless access in the Art Center.
     Teachers who want to use their laptops in class to access the Internet for images,
     etc., may ask in the office for the password -- the network is secure.
