Recycled Art Show wins fourth consecutive PROP award!
The Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania won a fourth
consecutive Waste Watcher Award for
our 2009 Recycled Art Show, "Out of the Box". The awards are presented by
Professional
Recyclers of Pennsylvania (PROP) for outstanding recycling efforts in the state.
AACP Director Marie Doll and the show’s six-time
co-chairs Michael Dietz and Anni
Matsick were presented with the framed certificate by Art Seltes,
PROP president, on July 27
at PROP’s 2010 Conference at the Penn Stater.
A display of selected award winners from past shows drew a
lot of interest from conference
attendees. In the second photo, Anni and Mike admire the display with Joanne
Shafer, Deputy Executive Director/Recycling Coordinator at CCSWA.

Schlow Library Juried Exhibition
The Friends of Schlow Centre Region library, in conjunction
with the Betsy Rodgers Allen
Gallery, hosted their first annual juried exhibition during the month of
July. Open to all
established and emerging artists aged 16 and up, it offered an opportunity for
local artists
within 25 miles of State College to participate in the Arts Festival
without the cost of a booth.
55 artists submitted work to the gallery committee for
preliminary review. 45 were accepted
.Dana Carlise Kletchka, the Curator of Education at the Palmer Museum of
Art acted as
juror. Her difficult decisions were made and announced on July 1st at the
opening reception.
Ruth Kempner, long-time artist and resident, took 1st place with
her collage, "Tussie Mussie
for the Bride," while Anni Matsick won second prize for her
"Manhattan Studio" watercolor.
Laura Winn Kane won 3rd prize for the pastel piece, "Summer
Seasons."
In recognition of the young artists in our community, Gallery
Coordinator, Maria Burchill,
announced a 4th prize that same evening for emerging talent. It was
awarded to student
Azadeh Amiri for her mixed-media work, "Persian Peace."
The positive response to the exhibition so pleased the
Friends of the library and library's
gallery committee that they intend to hold a second exhibition in 2011.

web site any interested artist
member who has
had his or her work juried into at least one of our Juried Shows in the past

The fee
is waived for artists who have taught Art Alliance classes in
the past
two years.
If you are interested in being included in this listing please call the
Art Alliance office.

Wi-Fi is here!
Our office wireless
network can now provide wireless access in the Art Center.
