    Classes begin the week of March 29, 2010 unless otherwise noted.

    The Registration Form can be filled in directly on the screen
     (except for credit card info),  and then printed and mailed to the
     Art Alliance.

    If you have trouble finding time for your art at home, drop by the open studio: a great
opportunity to finish work, to have work critiqued, or simply to socialize with other artists.
By giving yourself a regular time to focus on your art, you will see your productivity rise.

Drawing : Discover & Explore the Intimacy of Objects

        **Teens and Young Adults Welcome**
    We will LOOK at objects, develop strong compositional space, and build a vocabulary of
 marks as we engage in the drawing process. With a minimum number of "tools" we will all have
 work that will enhance our portfolios. Exploration of a variety of papers and surfaces will be
 offered so that all students will make personal choices as to the support on which they work
 Members of the class will "learn" from one another as drawings are executed and a dialogue
 between students is developed.

Acrylic Painting

      In this course you will discover yourself through the versatility of
 acrylics. We will experiment with different techniques, surfaces,
 colors and compositions. In the process you will learn new
 approaches and become more creative and courageous with your
 subject. You will be capable of translating ideas into a finished
 painting and find ways of working that are unique and personal.
 This class is for all experience levels.

It's All About the Light

 How do you make the glow of the sun behind clouds or streaming through the trees appear more intense than the pigment should allow? Learn to capture the energy and excitement of light in your landscapes, regardless of preferred medium. The class will be taught in oil and acrylic, but the concepts work in any color medium. Various methods of using both oil and acrylic will be demonstrated. Reference photos by the instructor will be available or supply your own. Suitable to all experience levels.

 Digital Cameras in the Field

    This course will concentrate on using your digital camera effectively
 outdoors to capture landscapes, nature close-ups and other natural
 subjects. The first class will be held at the Art Alliance to discuss special
 needs for cameras in the outdoors. The next 3 classes will be held at
 locations around the central region to practice photographic skills. A final
 follow-up critique class will conclude the course. Some light walking will be
 required. Please note that this class in intended for students who have
 taken the Getting to Know Your Digital Camera class or already have
 confidence using your camera. This is not a beginning course in digital photography.

 Expressive Clay Sculpture

    Enjoy experimenting with clay to make expressive, abstract sculptures.
 While we will review basic techniques of constructing and finishing clay
 pieces, we will also go beyond technique to express ideas, emotions, and
 experiences in clay. Each class will focus on a theme and include
 exercises and demonstrations. All levels are welcome. Clay is available
 from the Art Alliance for a small fee. Please bring a wood board and some
 plastic bags to the first class.

 Pastels

     We'll continue to work towards a freer impressionistic style. The
 first class will be a review for those who missed the fall session.
 Under-painting and basic creative insights will be included in the
 curriculum. The final class will be held en plein aire! Call or email

Stained Glass

 Watercolors

Learn to paint gorgeous washes of watercolor using a multiple of subjects. Simplify your paintings and allow yourself to stop being in control or trying to create the perfect painting. In two classes students will bring in their favorite photos or sketches or choose one supplied by the instructor. All levels are welcome including beginners.

 Waterbased Media and Collage

    Expand your mixed-media and collage experience - use
 watercolors, acrylics, and inks to create new surfaces to
 work on, and to "paint with paper". A great way to free up

Open Model Session

    An opportunity to work from a model in the medium of your choice. Please note that this
 is no longer on a "drop-in" basis. Students will need to register for the entire 8 week

 Portrait Painting

     A two-day workshop

     Beginning with short studies capturing the basic "gesture" of the
 head, this class will introduce basic concepts and methods of figure
 drawing and painting taught at Studio Incamminati as they apply to
 the portrait. Studies are based on understanding fundamental
 principles and teaching students how to see and how to study.

Abstraction Through the Lens

    Stuck for an idea for an abstract painting or want to improve
 your observational skills? You can approach abstract art ideas
 with your digital camera or use the camera to observe new
 subjects. Bob will reveal several techniques to create abstract
 photos in your camera that could either be inspiration for your
 paintings or be the art itself! This will be a hands-on experience,
 so bring your camera.

Glazing & Surface Treatment for Ceramic
     Sculpture & Pottery

     Need ideas on how to finish your sculpture or pottery?
 This workshop will cover a range of glazing and surface
 applications for pottery and ceramic sculpture. Jake will
demonstrate avariety of techniques using clay slips, glazes
 and terra sigillata toachieve different textures, colors, and designs.
 Participants will leave this workshop with lots of new ideas to explore in their work.
 People of all experience levels are welcome to participate
$30 payable to the Potter’s Guild at the time of the workshop

Tell Me a Story
    Sequence, repetition and close up
 Saturday, June 5 & Sunday, June 6    10 am - 2 pm
       A two-day workshop

  In this workshop we will address the creative possibilities of  telling a story throughout "sequence painting" using repetition, partition and close ups. One goal is to explore new ideas in mixed water media , and to show visual growth in your art through self expression. Whether working abstractly or representational each painter will be encouraged to find his or her unique, personal direction. Emphasis will be on repetition and changing conditions of color, perspective, and time to generate spatial and expressive strength.This workshop is for medium/advanced artist.
