the beginning to intermediate photographer

The lessons will include some background on how digital cameras
work, features of the camera and how to use them at the

Concrete Art
CANCELLED
Terry
Johnson
814-237-6670
terryjtiles@aol.com
New
additions to an old, outdoor friendly building material take concrete beyond
bird
baths and stepping stones and into a versatile, non toxic and light weight
sculpture
medium. The weight, scale and construction issues of ceramics are transcended
with
concrete while the shaping, incising, coloring and molding potential remains.
Best of all,
most of the materials you will need can be picked up at your local
garden/building
supply store for cheap. Think big and join an experimental class for a dance
with a new
medium. Class will cover basic armature building, formulas and structural
additions,
casting and finishing techniques.
$15.00 materials fee. Students need rubber gloves and
protective eye wear.
Tuesdays: 6-9 pm 8 weeks
$120 members; $140 non-members
WEDNESDAYS
Abstract
Clay Sculpture
Mary
Lee Kerr 814-466-6050
mlkerr@verizon.net
Enjoy experimenting with clay
to make expressive abstract
sculptures. In weekly demonstrations and exercises, we will use
the human figure and objects from nature as our starting point
We will then learn to simplify those forms and use planes, lines,
negative space, and texture to create sculptures that capture the
most interesting elements or the “essence” of the real objects
While we cover basic clay techniques and tools, the emphasis
will be on the creative process – taking risks and discovering
what you want to express in a supportive environment. All levels are
welcome.
Clay is available for a small fee. Bring a wood board and plastics bags to the
first class.
Wednesdays: 9 am - noon
$120 members;
$140 non-members

Suminagashi Marbling Workshop
August 15 10 am to 4 pm
including lunch break
Diane Maurer-Mathison
Bright meandering lines and jagged rings of color are the
hallmark of Japanese suminagashi marbling. A favorite of
paper decorators for over 800 years,
this is a low-
tech, almost meditative type of marbling. In this class you'll
learn to float
dyes on water, fan, blow or tease them into designs
and apply a sheet of absorbent paper to make a
contact print. We'll concentrate on
eastern techniques and add some western take-offs like
multiple-image work and kitty-
whisker prints to spice things up. You can make lots of subtle
or outrageous papers in
this class and use them on your cards, books, lampshades, folding
screens or in
collages The papers look luminescent with light coming through them. Suminagashi
marbling techniques work great on silk, too! All levels welcome.
Each participant will design a 22-inch silk scarf.
Class limit is 14.
Supply fee: $10. per student payable on the day of the workshop. All
materials provided.
$80 members; $90 non-members
