    Classes begin the week of July 5, 2010 unless otherwise noted.

    The Registration Form can be filled in directly on the screen
     (except for credit card info),  and then printed and mailed to the
     Art Alliance.

  
        Please help us help you. Under-enrolled classes must be canceled. 
          To make sure that the class you want is a "go" please enroll by June 28, 2010..

MONDAYS

Monday Afternooners

    If you have trouble finding time for your art at home, drop by the open studio: a great
opportunity to finish work, to have work critiqued, or simply to socialize with other artists.
By giving yourself a regular time to focus on your art, you will see your productivity rise.

TUESDAYS
 

Adobe Photoshop Tools

    This course is devoted to using the computer as a painting and
drawing tool. It does not cover photography. Students must supply
 their own laptop and Adobe Photoshop application
.Each class will consist of demonstrations followed by hands-on
 guidance for creating works of art. Demonstrations will cover
 using the tools, palettes, colors, filters, and concepts of design

 Improve Your Figure

    In this 3 session short course we will work in clay from a live model,
 progressing from short poses and quick studies to longer poses and
more finished pieces. The emphasis will be on expression and effective
 abstraction of the figure rather than realism. Clay is available from the Art
 Alliance for $12.50/25lbs. Please bring a wood board and some plastic
 bags to the first session.

Stained Glass

Watercolors – Exploration of Colors

    Ever have an image/photograph that you always wanted to work on but were apprehensive
 to do on your own? This is the session for you. Michele will give you the extra push of
 confidence and instruction to tackle your painting, OR just enjoy the assignment of the day
 (still life, landscape, etc).

 Waterbased Media and Collage

    Expand your mixed-media and collage experience - use
 watercolors, acrylics, and inks to create new surfaces to
 work on, and to "paint with paper". A great way to free up
 creativity and develop self-expression. Call Ruth for

                                                WORKSHOPS
 

 Photographing Streams
 Thursday, July 22    6:30 - 9:00 pm

    Bob has specialized in photographing the streams of Central PA and
 has exhibited many of his photos. This will be a hands-on workshop on
 location, using all the tools of a modern day digital camera to make the
 most effective photograph. An advanced camera such as a Digital SLR
 is not necessary. A tripod would be useful. The class will start with a
 learning session and then a practicum in photographing. The class will
 meet at the parking area at Galbraith Gap. Take road to Tussey Ski area
 and continue past ski area until you come to a stream and a bridge, turn
 left just before the bridge. Contact Bob with questions.

Basics of Realistic Still Life Drawing
 Friday – Sunday  August  6 - 8    1 – 4 pm each day      NOTE DATE CHANGE!

    This workshop focuses on the fundamentals of still life drawing from life in graphite pencil.
 Veronica will explain how to create balanced compositions, value changes, light/shade
 conditions, accurate object drawing, perspective, reflective surfaces, textures and fabric. This
 workshop is based on several demonstrations done by the artist and students’ active drawing
 participation to understand and practice basic art techniques. Students will draw from a still
 life placed in the studio. Teens 13 and above are welcome to enroll into this class. Supply list
 will be provided upon registration.
 $115 members; $125 non-members


Landscape Drawing for Beginners   CANCELLED

    This workshop is based on understanding key concepts in landscape drawing, including
 perspective, color/value intensity, textures, proportion, and drawing of specific objects like
 trees and clouds. Artist will have several demos and students will draw from their pictures.
 Thus, everybody should bring his/her large images/photos they want to draw from. Veronica
 will also have a few extra pictures at hand. In terms of dry mediums there will be two options:
 graphite drawing or drawing with black and white pencils on colored paper. Teens 13 and
 above are welcome to enroll into this class. Supply list will be provided upon registration.
 

Composition with Your Digital Camera

    The digital camera has made technically good photography
 available to everyone, but, what makes an aesthetically pleasing
 photograph (or art work)? This workshop will introduce you to the
 compositional standards that make a good photograph and then
 you will go out an practice shooting with some tips that Bob will
 introduce in the short classroom session.

“Pieces of You”  Mixed Media Workshop
 
Saturday, July 31 & Sunday, August 1   two days,  9 am - 1 pm each day

    This workshop is about creating a three-dimensional painting about yourself using more
 than paint. We will start creating a composition with boxes glued onto a while canvas.
 Afterwards we will add paint and applied other elements and imaginary. We will have the
 opportunity to make plaster forms from your own face, if you are so inclined, and use this
 mask for composition. 
    Open to experienced artists seeking to bring their art to the next level, and to beginners
 wishing to explore a wide range of creative processes.
   $100 members; $125 non-members
