Pastel is a versatile medium and using an underpainting

opportunity to plan and problem solve before starting to paint. Artists
have
used a variety of underpainting techniques for pastel painting, including
a
pastel wash, watercolor, gouache or acrylic wash to establish values or
provide
contrast. Unusual acrylic grounds or handmade papers in conjunction with
acrylic
gesso can also provide an interesting, textured surface on which to paint.

to try
several and bring a painting to completion. Contact Anne for materials

Instructor: Anne Kenyon
238-4451

Encaustic, painting with wax, is an ancient medium
experiencing a resurgence as
artists explore its creative possibilities. The term literally means "to
burn in" and
involves using pigmented wax on an absorbent but rigid surface to create
layers that
are fused together. The resulting works are often abstract, can
incorporate collage
materials and have an interested depth and translucency. This workshop
will serve
as an introduction and opportunity to try a different artistic medium.

questions or for materials list.
